Frankfurt, much like Joburg where I come from, is not at all a tourist’s city. Few people know very much about Frankfurt, and even fewer people have actually spent a good amount of time here. After all, it is a place known for two things: banks and connecting flights. Go figure. And while I’m very grateful that Frankfurt isn’t overflowing with tacky souvenir shops and selfie sticks, a part of me does feel sad about the city’s underrated reputation. In almost […]

There are a couple of reasons why Seb and I made the daunting decision to pack up our lives, leave everything and everyone we knew behind and move to Germany. Signature Brooklyn Cardamon Glazed Duck Breast

Anyone in Joburg who takes good food very seriously has probably heard of Signature Restaurant in Morningside. After hearing so much about this place, we thought it would a tragedy not to have seen it before we leave for Germany in a few months’ time. Nan Hua is just over an hour from Joburg – a very comfortable distance for an afternoon excursion.

Escondido Tapas Bar Illovo

When Seb and I started Fritter and Loaf, we initially intended it for it to be equal parts cooking and reviewing. For some reason, we never got around to the second part. Until now. For our first official review, we couldn’t think of a better place to profile than Escondido Tapas Bar in Illovo, which has an exceptionally not-crap rating of 4.6/5 on Zomato. After a furious gallery visiting mission in town, we arrived there hungry and with […]
